What We Do
Make a difference by helping support the lives of families experiencing temporary homelessness. There is a severe shortage of affordable housing, exacerbated by rising rents and housing costs. With little or no safety net, one unforeseen expense or emergency can lead to family homelessness. Our program, with Family Promise of Wake County, provides meals and groceries for one week several times a year while families work towards permanent housing. We envision a community where every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.
We need volunteers to cook home cooked meals, and/or shop for groceries and then drop off at St Francis on the assigned day. We also need volunteers to deliver the food each day to Family Promise on Method Rd. Turn your compassion into action, small commitment, big impact.

Frequently Asked Questions about Family Promise
Q: What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
A: We are looking for parishioners who can commit to driving the groceries and meals to Family Promise on Method Rd as well as those who can make home-cooked meals and/or provide groceries.
Q: Is it ok to make other food items than what is on the sign up?
A: No, we need to be sure we stick with the list of items needed on the sign up only.
Q: What if I forget to make a meal or can no longer bring it to St. Francis?
A: We totally understand that emergencies happen or sometimes you simply forget. Please let us know as soon as possible that you can no longer commit to bringing the items you signed up for. Families are counting on these meals, so we need to be sure we can step in and substitute the missing items.
Q: Is there a need for childcare for families?
A: Families are no longer hosted at the church, so there is no longer a need for child helpers.
Q: Are teens able to get high school volunteer credit for participating?
A: Absolutely! Working with our program can count as part of the Community Service Hours requirement.
