What We Do
The Farm to church CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) supports local BIPOC farmers and sustainable and/or organic farming methods. By subscribing to a CSA, you share in both the risks and rewards of a farmer and their farm produce. The subscription fee is paid up front to the farmer. As a member of the CSA, you will receive a weekly box of sustainably and organically grown produce for 8 weeks during the CSA season. There are options to join in the fall, spring, and summer.
The CSA at St. Francis is in partnership with RAFI. RAFI-USA "challenges the root causes of unjust food systems, supporting and advocating for economically, racially, and ecologically just farm communities". Currently, St. Francis of Assisi is being served by Brown Family Farms, in Henderson, NC.
How to Get Involved
- Purchase a subscription to the CSA! Each season there is an opportunity to join. When you join, you receive produce from the farm every Saturday that you will pick up from St. Francis. There is also an option to purchase pasture raised eggs.
- Purchase a share for someone in need. You also have the option to donate your box of produce each week to the Interfaith Food Shuttle. This will directly support someone in our community who is food insecure.
- Volunteer with the CSA. Come out and help hand out produce on Saturday’s or work with Elizabeth to help market and grow the program.

In 1865, Patrick Brown’s great-grandfather escaped slavery on Oakley Grove Plantation in Warren County, North Carolina. After the war, he worked as a sharecropper on another plantation and started what would become a fourth-generation farm. Today, Patrick is committed to regenerative farming practices so his century-old farm can stay in the family for at least another 100 years—and he’s leading with industrial hemp.

Frequently Asked Questions about the CSA Program
Q: What kind of produce will I get each week?
A: The produce is local seasonal produce. For the spring there will be a variety of produce: red and green kale, bok choy, squash, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, swiss chard, onions, radishes, beets, romaine lettuce, and cucumbers.
Q: What if I can't pick up my produce?
A: If you can't pick up your produce one week you are able to donate it to the community garden. They donate all produce to the interfaith food shuttle. You also have the option of having a friend pick up your share. There is a possibility that someone will be available to help deliver your produce depending on where you live. I can't make any guarantees, but I will try to help you out if you can't be there to pick it up.
Q: May I purchase a share to donate?
A: If you would like to purchase a share to donate, you may. The donation will be donated to the community garden. You will still sign up and pay the farmers and then notify me that your share is for donation.
Q: How much produce will I get each week?
A: Each full share will be designed for four people (half shares for two
people), with each weekly delivery providing a serving of veggies for each
person for approximately 6 meals.
Q: How long does the season last and what is the cost?
A: The season lasts for 8 weeks. A full share is $300 and a half share is $150. This is the cost for the full 8 weeks.
